Q1  What are you doing now?
I currently teach design and engineering to elementary and middle school students and run a school makerspace. In the fall, I'll be going back to school to get a Master's and PhD in Mechanical Engineering.

Q2  How did the Science Fair change your life?
The Science Fair showed me the magic of being in a space buzzing with people who are passionate about making new discoveries. I had never experienced a feeling like that until I went to ISEF, and it strongly impacted my decision to go to MIT for undergrad when I found that same feeling there again.

Q3  What did you like the most about the Science Fair?
I loved being part of a group of people who all have become experts in their tiny slices of the world of science and engineering. I knew I could learn so much from anyone I talked to and that they felt the same about me. I loved getting to know the Michigan cohort as well and made some lifelong friends!

Q4  What career advice do you wish someone told you when you were younger? Career advise you wish to share?
Spend time doing the things you love and thinking about why you love them. Try new things and try to find things you like doing that you aren't immediately good at- you'll find that so much personal growth comes from leaving your comfort zone. Don't buy into the idea that science and math people don't need to think about other subjects. Spend time reading, writing, and reflecting- it will serve you well.

Q5  Any specific advice on becoming involved in Science and Engineering?
If you are able to explore these areas through classes and summer programs, it will give you a great taste of whether or not you would enjoy pursuing the field as a career! Talk to people you know who have gone into those areas and get their advice. Never be afraid to send a cold email or make a cold call- some of my best learning opportunities have come from reaching out to people I didn't know who were working on things I was interested in.
