Emory Payne
Q1 What are you doing now? |
I am working as a PhD Candidate in analytical chemistry at the University of Michigan |
Q2 How did the Science Fair change your life? |
It entirely changed the course of my life and career through showing me what research could be. It allowed me to succeed and continue through STEM in college and graduate school. |
Q3 What did you like the most about the Science Fair? |
I liked the experience presenting to people who could understand the project and who were enthusiastic about the work. I also liked meeting other contestants from other schools in the state/country. |
Q4 What career advice do you wish someone told you when you were younger? Career advise you wish to share? |
Research is daunting and sometimes demoralizing. Recognize that these lows are most often followed by great successes that you can attribute to the learning and growing you did. |
Q5 Any specific advice on becoming involved in Science and Engineering? |
Reach out! It may seem unlikely that you can get help, resources, or advising from adults working in science, but there is a good chance that if you send an email, they will do their best to help you succeed! |
