Q1  What are you doing now?
I am currently working as an RN in the Cardiothoracic Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University of Michigan. I also conduct clinical neuroscience research in the Dept. of Anesthesiology at U of M, and have published multiple research studies on post-operative delirium, anesthetic brain states, and improving brain health after surgery. Additionally, I am currently applying to graduate school to become a Nurse Anesthetist and plan to obtain my PhD in Pharmacology.

Q2  How did the Science Fair change your life?
Becoming a Grand Award Winner at the Detroit Science Fair was a pivotal moment in my life that gave me the confidence to pursue a career in research and the medical field. Attending ISEF provided me with valuable experience in poster presentation, dissemination of research, and networking. It helped me find my passion for research and realize the positive impact that one can have through science and research.

Q3  What did you like the most about the Science Fair?
The challenge it presented, as well as the opportunity to meet students, researchers, and professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Q4  What career advice do you wish someone told you when you were younger? Career advise you wish to share?
Be patient with yourself and enjoy the journey. It is important to have long term goals while still enjoying the grueling process it takes to achieve great things.

Q5  Any specific advice on becoming involved in Science and Engineering?
Talk with different researchers, find out what interests you, and email researchers/professors to ask for meetings or opportunities to work on their team. You are never too young to start getting involved in the science fair. I was 14 when I started working in a Pathology lab at U of M, and went on to be a Grand Award Winner that same year.
