Krystal Rochelle Bolar
“Science is a process,
not an isolated occurrence”
Krystal R. Bolar
graduated from Detroit’s Cass Technical High School in 1990. She completed her
freshman year at Michigan State University. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in
Science in 1994 and Masters in Education in 1995 from Wayne State University. Krystal started her teaching career at her
former middle school, Hally Magnet Middle School. She taught there for one year
in 1995 as an ESRP, 5 years at Area E school for Performing Arts and then later
returning to Hally in 2000 fully certified teaching science and DAPCEP. She
spent the next 10 years at Hally Magnet Middle School.
Last year, her last
year at Hally Magnet Middle School, six students earned Gold Awards, and one
student a Grand
Award at the Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit. Krystal is currently teaching
science at Brewer Academy
Krystal is totally committed the
science education. In 2000 she coached
the state champions of the National Science Bowl. She is a member of DAPCEP,
Detroit Area Pre-College and Engineering Program. Krystal has made
presentations for DPS and one for MDSTA on conducting a science fairs. Krystal
has encouraged hundreds of students to enter the Science Fair of Metropolitan
Detroit and they have been rewarded for their hard work with grand awards, gold
medals, and other ribbons as well as trips and other prizes. She has escorted
her junior grand winners to 2 International Science Fairs, again emphasis that
science is a process. Having students understand that science is a process
allows them to realize that science can change their lives.
In 2000 a competitive but loving
friendship began with Sheryl and Krystal. They worked together for 10 years at
Hally Magnet Middle School. As the “Dynamic Duo”, they have entered 459 science
fair projects to the Science and Engineering Fair of Metropolitan Detroit.
Under their guidance, 8 students have earned grand awards, 10 have earned first
place gold, 26 students have earned second place gold and 46 students have
earned third place gold. Of the 459 entries, 34 students have also been
recognized with professional awards. Krystal and Sheryl have been on the
Temperate Forest Teacher tours to Lake Placid, NY in 2004 and Escanaba, MI in
2006 together. They have also attended the Michigan Tech summer training in
2007 together. Teaching science at Hally Magnet Middle School for 9 years
together has forged a covalent bond. (A covalent bond is a form of chemical
bonding that is characterized by the sharing of pairs of electrons
between atoms, this forms a stable balance of
attractive and repulsive forces)
