Biographical Sketch for Sheryl C. Rucker
Sheryl C. Rucker a graduate of Detroit’s
Renaissance High School earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and
Masters in Science Education from Wayne State University. Her teaching
career with Detroit Public Schools started in 1999 with her appointment as a
Science and pre-engineering teacher at Hally Magnet
Middle School; where she taught for 11 years.
Currently teaching at Frederick Douglass College
Preparatory Academy for Young Men her success continues. In 2011 Douglass Academy, for the first time
in the school’s history had students successfully compete at the 54th
Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit; with seven students earning Gold
Awards. Her enthusiasm in supporting students in completing scientific research
science fair projects has had a positive impact on students who may have
ordinarily thought “No, I can’t!”
Sheryl is the mother of 2 children who share and
support her passion for science education. She has sponsored numerous students
in the Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit, Science Bowl and You Be
the Chemist competitions and loves teaching 4th grade Saturday
DAPCEP at University of Detroit-Mercy.
“I believe in showing students they are
capable of doing so much more than they think possible when students and parents
are committed to the process.
“Science is a process not an isolated
occurrence!” As my co-teacher of the year would say!
