Kate Harding graduated from Eastern Michigan University and is currently the 7th and 8th grade Science teacher at St. Michael School in Livonia, MI.  She is a mentor for the National Junior Honor Society and a  sponsor for the Student Leaders Organization, a student focused action group at St. Michael’s.  Every year, St. Michael’s holds their own Science Fair competition and hands out Awards of Excellence to students whose projects are above and beyond the average expectation.

Mrs. Harding credits her success to “wonderfully receptive and responsive students and a strongly supportive administration.”    She states:  “I like to challenge students to push things a little higher, a little further…to show them that Science can change lives and open doors to the future.  While Science projects are fun and educational, they also teach valuable life skills such as time management and critical thinking.   The Detroit Science Fair is a great opportunity for students to proudly show what they have accomplished.”

238 students have gone on to compete at the Metropolitan Detroit Science Fair under Mrs. Harding’s guidance and many have proudly claimed top honors including a total of 130 first, second, and third place ribbons as well as 7 Grand Award winners.
