Marilynn Burden Jackson has served the Detroit Public School Community District for over 35 years.  She is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Masters in Education from Wayne State University.  In her 35 years of teaching, 25 years were spent at Beaubien Junior High where she was a science teacher, DAPCEP (Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program) teacher and curriculum leader.  She has been a teacher in the K-3 DAPCEP program for over 15 years where she was able to impact students from Kindergarten to third grade with positive science learning experiences.  As the DAPCEP teacher at Beaubien Jr. High, Marilynn’s students excelled at the Metropolitan Detroit Science Fair.  Along with her own students, she has encouraged and assisted hundreds of other students to enter the Science Fair and they have been rewarded for their hard work with Gold Ribbons, Grand Awards, trips and prizes.  The Metropolitan Detroit Science Fair is a great opportunity for students to proudly display how much they have accomplished through their research and experiments.  Science projects teach valuable life skills as well, such as time management and critical thinking.  Although she is currently retired, she continues to support teachers and students in the science fair project research process.  She continues to volunteer her time and service at other schools and judge their science fairs.  She has judged numerous fairs on the school and district level and has been a judge and Chief Judge for over 30 years with the Metropolitan Detroit Science Fair.  She has provided science fair in-services to many teachers over the years and for the last 35 plus years, she has provided assistance to students, children and friends’ children on completing science fair projects and now the focus has shifted to grandchildren and friends’ grandchildren.  Regardless of the positions she has held, her love of science and her passion to actively engage students with science has continues.  Marilynn lives a busy and complete life with her husband Milton, three daughters, Chrystal, Kelly and NiKole along with son-in-law’s Marlo, Fred and Maurice and her 12 grandchildren (her pride and joy)!  She is active in various social and professional organizations as well.
