Rebecca Brewer – Teacher of the Year – 2021
Rebecca Brewer earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology
and Master's degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University.
She is currently a high school AP Biology and Freshmen Biology teacher at Troy
High School in Troy, MI where she is also the advisor to Biology Competitions
Club. She first got involved in Science Fair in 2005, mentoring a group of Troy
High students who won a NASA research competition and traveled to NASA Ames
Research Center in California https://archive.org/details/nasaames-4jsP_bQnLhU. She
has since supported many students participating in Science Fair
annually, several of whom have earned top awards at both the state and national
level.
Outside of teaching, Rebecca coauthors the textbook Biology
Now and creates educational resources for Science Friday and PBS
NewsHour Extra. She serves as a workshop consultant and resource developer for
the biotech company MiniOne Systems and is a teacher
ambassador for the National Center for Science Education and for Concord
Consortium where she is on the ConnectedBio team.
