Convergence banks on kids

Today, Convergence Education Foundation has made another major push towards kids interested in science and engineering.  Convergence will be providing $10,000 per year in a multi-year commitment to the Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit.

The grant will be used to promote science and engineering in schools, specifically in the 7th through 12th grade levels.  At least $2,000 will be used as awards to students and their schools for projects that best demonstrate innovations in the field of electronics and control systems.  Specific judging criteria will be released by January 1, 2004 – well in advance of the February deadline for project entries.

In addition, Convergence will be present during Public viewing hours at the fair and will provide a ‘hands-on-lab’ for students and teachers in ‘project learning’, centered around the Segway personal transportation system.

“We are delighted to have Convergence Education Foundation as a partner with the Science Fair of Metro Detroit”, said Tim Fino, Fair Director.  “Our goals are very similar and the Science Fair is one way of rewarding students and schools for new and creative ideas”

The SEFMD will be held March 30-April 3, 2004 at Cobo Center in Detroit.  It is open to the public (free of charge) April 1-2 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  Entry form deadline for competition in the fair is February 6, 2004
