Kathleen Mencotti, Susan Janiczek and Linda Engler
Selected as ‘Teachers of the Year’ for 2007

Kathleen Mencotti, Susan Janiczek, and Linda Engler from Detroit Country Day Middle School in Beverly Hills, Michigan, have been selected as the Science Fair ‘Teachers of the Year’ for 2005.  The award is given annually to a single teacher that best demonstrates encouragement of students in the sciences and long term support for the Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit.  This year, there was a three way tie since all three teachers have been involved for over 23 years with the Science Fair and have demonstrated consistent, long term support and encouragement for their students towards Math, Science, and Engineering.

Kathleen, Susan, and Linda were selected from a number of teachers that have participated in the science fair.  Final selection was announced on Friday, February 2, 2007 by Tim Fino, Fair Director of the Fair.  The award is given on behalf of the Engineering Society of Detroit in conjunction with the ESD affiliate council with a formal presentation during National Engineer’s Week and a special recognition dinner on February 22, 2007.

A biography of each of the three will follow in the next release.

The SEFMD will be held March 20-24, 2007 at Cobo Center in Detroit.  It is open to the public (free of charge) March 22-23 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  Entry form deadline for competition in the fair is February 23, 2007.  Students are encouraged to enter the Science Fair through their schools to earn recognition and key financial awards and scholarships.
