Science Fair winners receive awards at International Science & Engineering Fair in Atlanta, GA

 

In a total of two award ceremonies, 5 students from the Detroit Metro area won numerous prestigious awards at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held in Atlanta, Georgia.  These special awards were presented on May 15-16, 2008 and consisted of key awards from scientific, professional and educational organizations, governmental organizations, and overall category awards.

 

Harrison Nguyen, Catholic Central High School, Novi, Michigan.   Project title:  “Combating Muscle Atrophy: A Novel Study of Myofibril Turnover in S. macrurus”

United States Air Force, Second Place Award of $1,500

American Physiological Society, First Place Award of $1,000

Cellular and Molecular Biology - Fourth Place – Fourth place award of $500

 

Shravani Mikkilineni, Detroit Country Day Upper, Beverly Hills, Michigan.  Project Title:  “Continued Fractions and Orbits of a Linear Fractional Transformation”

            American Mathematical Society, Second Award of $500

Ashtavadhani Vidwan Ambati Subbaraya Chetty (AVASC) Foundation, Second Award of

$500 U.S. Savings bond

Mathematical Sciences Category – Second Place Award of $1,500

 

Hari Arul, Detroit Country Day School, Beverly Hills, Michigan.  Project Title:  “Synthesis of Nanoparticle-Enabled Polymer Membranes for Biofouling Mitigation”     

            Environmental Management Category – Third Place Award of $1,000

 

Helen Yang, Troy High School, Troy, Michigan.  Project Title: “Using Arugula to Manage the Northern Root-knot Nematode in Variable Soil Types”

            Plant Sciences Category – Fourth Place Award of $500

 

Rahul Pandey, Stoney Creek High School, Rochester Hills, Michigan.  Project Title:  “A 3-D Lens with Alternative Unit Cell Design for Negative Refractive Index”

            Ashtavadhani Vidwan Ambati Subbaraya Chetty (AVASC) Foundation – Second Place

Award of $500 U.S. Savings Bond
