Teacher of the Year Award

Since 1993, the Engineering Society of Detroit Affiliate Council has recognized one teacher in the tri-county area as the 'teacher of the year'.   The selected teacher is an outstanding individual that promotes science and engineering to her or his students and actively promotes the Science and Engineering Fair of Metro Detroit.

Nomination process:
  1)  In December or early January, the Operating Council of the Science Fair receives nominations for the teacher of the year.  The operating council narrows the list of nominees to three prospective recipients and rank orders its selection.  Two of the three final nominees must be from outside of the operating council.  To nominate a person for consideration by the operating council, send an email to:  sf2023@ sefmd.org and include:
        - Teacher's Name
        - Teacher's School
        - Subjects taught by the teacher
        - Years person has been involved with the Science Fair (if known)
        - Description/recommendation statements describing the contributions this person has made to the Science and Engineering Fair of Metropolitan Detroit (max of 500 words).

  2)  A representative from the Science Fair, ESD, the Affiliate Council, and the previous award recipient  review the final three nominees and select the 'teacher of the year' and notifies the person or their award.

Award Presentation:
During Engineers week, the selected teacher is invited to attend the ESD Gold Awards banquet/reception to receive the award.  The award is usually presented by the previous award recipient.  This year, the awards presentation will occur at:
        The 2023 Gold Award Banquet
